Going into the competition with a first place ranking in all entered divisions, the Cardinals wanted to complete the sweep; a feat they were .12 points away from in 2005. Instead the Cardinals left Daytona with only half the task completed, finishing first in Coed and Small Coed, and second in Dance, and All-Girl.
"It's selfish to say that you're disappointed in two first place and two second place finishes" Coach Todd Sharp said adding "We just had such high expectations and thought that we had pulled it off."
Coed continued to dominate the competition. They continue to be the team everyone tries to beat while marching to their fourth national competition in a row and 12th overall. The Small Coed Continued to build their own dynasty winning for the second time; the only two years that they have competed.
The All-Girl Team's raw scores would have led this team to a spot at the top of the podium if tumbling deductions hadn't dropped the score. They finished right below Maryland.
The Ladybirds looked to avenge their close loss to BYU last year with a crisp performance at this years Championship.
"The girls really danced flawless and BYU had some stumbles in their performance," Coach Todd Sharp said.
Ultimately their score of 9.50 was an even more heartbreaking .03 behind the reigning champion Cougarettes.
"We really thought we had it. I can't wait for everyone to see the competition on TV. Maybe they can tell us how we didn't win," Sharp added, "but I guess that is the problem with having a subjective score."
Regardless of the abbreviated expectations of the Cheer Squads, they continued to show why when people around the country think of a dominant cheer-leading program they think of the Louisville Cardinals.
